Nowa hodowla w Szkocji

30 września 2011 roku trzy młode krowy przybyły do Alladale Wilderness Reserve w Szkocji. Wspomniane żubrzyce, to: 11351 NL-82, 11352 NL-83 i 11353 NL-84, urodzone w roku 2008 w holenderskiej hodowli Natuurpark Lelystad. Wszystkie są linii nizinnej! W drodze z Lelystad do Alladale miały półtoraroczny „postój” w belgijskiej hodowli Han-sur-Lesse. Do Szkocji przywiózł je Joep van de Vlasakker, który od lat zajmuje się transportem zwierząt, w tym żubrów. Ze względu na wyjątkowo surowe przepisy, związane z importem zwierząt na terytorium Wielkiej Brytanii, konieczne było spełnienie wielu procedur. Zwierzęta dojechały w dobrej formie. Na miejscu zostały zbadane, są zdrowe i mają się dobrze, co widać na zdjęciu.

Teren Alladale Wilderness Reserve, to ok. 10 000 ha łąk i zadrzewień. Jest więc miejsce na rozwijanie hodowli. Dyrektor rezerwatu, pan Hugh Fullerton-Smith ma w planach sprowadzenie jeszcze kilku krów oraz byka (koniecznie linii nizinnej, aby zachować odrębność dwu linii hodowlanych!), co ma zaowocować pojawieniem się cieląt. Marzeniem Dyrektora jest, aby w przyszłości żubry z Alladale zasiliły populację żyjącą na kontynencie europejskim…

The three young cows came to Allardale Wilderness Reserve on 30th September 2011. These wisents are: 11351 NL-82, 11352 NL-83 and 11353 NL-84. All of them were born in Natuurpark Lelystad (The Netherlands) in 2008 and are of Lowland-Line. The cows were traveling from Lelystad to Scotland via Han-sur-Lesse (Belgium) where they were living for a one and half year. Joep van de Vlasakker transported them to Alladale. He is an expert in dealing the animals but in this case he coped with many troubles resulted from the very restricted regulations in importing the animals to Great Britain. Finally the wisents arrived in a good condition and healthy what you can see on a picture.

Allerdale Wilderness Reserve contains about 10 000 hectares of grass lands and well-timbered regions. So, there is enough place for breeding European bison. Mr. Hugh Fullerton-Smith, Director of the Reserve intends to import some cows of European bison and a bull in the future (of the Lowland-Line, of course!) to have an offspring from them. Director Fullerton-Smith’s dream is to send the young wisents born in Alladale to the population of this species living on European mainland.
